A GUIDANCE GOSPEL FOR SCIONS OF SINDH
This is the second volume of his book in this series which contains in it a detailed and interesting information about 24 Universities of USA, 7 of Canada, one of Mexico and 5 Universities of Australia. The first volume of the book published two years earlier was about 44 high ranking European universities. As of earlier this book also gives a complete insight into higher education, develops a desire among aspiring students to study in world class universities. It also guides sufficiently about admission procedures, scholarships, opportunities and facilities in those universities. The writing style of an author is very interesting, it is just like he is talking with readers in a tender tone while walking hand in hand with them through lush lawns of the world famed Universities.
There are many inspirational anecdotes in the book to emulate and feel satisfied. For instance, while reading a history of Harvard University, one finds an inspiring role of John Harvard who had given his whole wherewithal to the “New Town College” which later on attained the status of a world famed academy known as “Harvard University” that was named after him in recognition of his love for learning, and education. The book mentions vividly about a few former USA presidents and their
love and dedication to learning and academies, who were famous for their scholarly aptitude. Amongst them, John F. Kennedy and Thomas Jefferson were well known. John F. Kennedy was an honorary visiting professor and one line taken from his lecture has become a quotable quote. It goes so: “The Greater our knowledge increases, the greater our ignorance unfolds.” This shows a sublime sense of civility and scholarship. Another former president of USA Thomas Jefferson, was too a scholar of high repute, who had written Declaration of Independence of America. He was the founder of Virginia University. In last days of life, he had invited his heirs to declare his will before them. He had expressed his will in these terms. “Inscription on my grave epitaph should carry my name as a founder of Virginia University, not the president of USA.” It shows a culmination of commitment to the cause of learning, enlightenment and attachment with academy of a politician of high stature. There is also a marvelous mention of famous personalities who hailing from different occupations vocations and other commercial activities have played praiseworthy roles in educational advancements.
It is an admitted fact that universities are cradles of learning, scholarship, discoveries and inventions. All Universities mentioned in the book of USA, Canada, Mexico and Australia have maintained individual identities and made their marks in different disciplines. Not only it, but they have discovered and invented startling instruments as well as made miracles in medical world, finding treatments of deadly diseases such as Diabetics and cancer. For example, Western University of London Ontario, Canada’s renowned scientist Fredric Bunting had found in his research “Insulin” in 1920 and another group of scientists headed by Iron Smith had invented “Cobalt bomb” in 1951 for cancer treatment. This shows the profound patronage and encouragement by the government to the academies.
It would be improper not to appreciate commendable contribution of “Community Colleges of USA” for launching a laudable program known as “community College Initiative program” through which USAID and USEFP scholarships are being awarded to Pakistani students and many Sindhi youth are enjoying Studies in USA thanks to USA and her people. This “Honour for Humanity Concept” in academic arena is worth appreciating.
The Canadian Government also aptly earns appreciation for welcome steps for enabling students to carry on their education in the fields of their interest and specialty through “Canadian students loan and grants programs” and other Foreign scholarships that facilitate students of underdeveloped countries like Pakistan to acquire education with ease.
When I read history of Monish University of Australia, it amazed me a lot, because it is named after of Sir John Monish, an ex-army commander of Australia, in recognition of his services for country and his people without discrimination among compatriots. It reveals that he received an acknowledgement from his people in return of love he had shown to them, otherwise a General is seen as a symbol of savagery and the continuum of a saga of horror hammering Halaku Khan and so on.
The University of Sidney Australia has been playing a very vital role in research particularly in medical fields and many breakthroughs are done by its research scholars in Heart, Lungs, Kidneys and Diabetics diseases treatments under patronage of government.
Australian Government cogently merits compliments for facilitating and sponsoring aspiring students of underdeveloped countries like Pakistan through “Education Rhodes Scholarships Programs.” This is why many students from Sindh are studying there in different disciplines.
There is a detailed description about National Autonomous University of Mexico, many able alumina of this university have received Nobel prizes for peace, literature, and in scientific achievements. Mexico Government also deserves plaudits for launching scholarship programs for foreign students.
Sindhi Association of North America (SANA) is also lauded for its commendable contribution and remarkable role in social welfare services for aspirant and skilled Sindhi youth in terms of facilitation for admissions in educational institutions, accommodations, and help in getting appropriate employment. Its “Sindh Skill Development programs” (SSDP) is also highly appreciated.
Other oversees welfare and cultural organizations like “Sindhi Association of Gulf Region” (SAGR) and “Sindhi Community of great Huston” are also lauded for guiding and helping skilled youth in pursuit of their higher education and jobs on one hand and providing occasions to expatriate Sindhis for reunion also. However, this book is an excellent addition in Sindhi literature for covering a compact history of universities of USA (North America), Canada, Mexico (Latin America), and Australia.
Last but not least, it is my humble suggestion that this book may be made available in public as well as educational institutions libraries so as to well equip new generation and promising youth with complete information about studies in foreign Universities availing self-orientation by it.
Well done dear Mukhtiar, you are a true savant son of Sindh, born of Moen-Jo-Daro!
